About

Our Story

Rich is retired. When not on the road he helps maintain his and Kathy’s small ranch in Markleeville, California where he and Kathy live. At home, he pursues his interests in playing and recording music, programming 3D graphics games that integrate machine learning algorithms, golfing at local courses, fishing local rivers and streams, and nature and wildlife photography.

Kathy is a web programmer for the Nevada Legislature and is nearing retirement. In her previous career, she worked in the nuclear industry as a Health Physicist. When she and Rich first met, Kathy was a licensed nuclear reactor operator working on her Master’s degree at the University of Lowel where she worked at the university’s research reactor.

We bought our Ford F350 and Reflection 5th-wheel RV in early 2020, just as the Covid-19 Pandemic started spreading around the world. We were new to RVing and nervous about traveling around in such a big rig. We started with short camping trips in our region to learn the basics of setting up and breaking down the RV, learning how to work together to accomplish everything we needed to do on our checklist of tasks, how to back into tight camping spots, and so on. We made a few mistakes in the learning process but avoided making any catastrophic mistakes.

Our biggest RV adventure before our Western Canada and Alaska trip was a six-week trip around the western United States. It was a good experience to prepare us for some of what we might expect to encounter on our big Alaska adventure!
